Notes: Mazey was picked up from the owner when he decided he couldn't care for her or the puppies during her pregnancy. She had been bred four times in only five years. The poor girl looked tired, wasn't receiving proper nutrition, and had not been kept up to date on her shots, putting her litter at risk. As a seasoned mother, she delivered her first pup with ease and quietly on June 6 at 7:30P. Sadly, she delivered two stillborn pups that evening and was in labor until 4:30A the next morning delivering her eighth puppy. The puppies were abnormally small and after only two weeks Mazey lost two more of her precious babies. One puppy, Phoenix, was having trouble gaining weight and had to be fed by bottle every 3-4 hours for the first 3 weeks. Mazey became very protective of her brood. She kept constant watch over them and would yelp and whine to call her Foster Mom if she felt something was wrong. Thankfully, due to the aggressive intervention of CBR's rescue vet Dr. Rosen, Mazey now has four glorious puppies who are fat, happy and active. Phoenix is a momma's boy and loves cuddling and playing with Mom whenever he can. He still isn't as big or strong as his litter mates and has been a little slower to develop, but his appetite is strong and his love for his Momma is even stronger. Because of the trauma of losing half of her litter, the bond between her and her babies is particularly strong, specifically with Phoenix. CBR would really love to see a Forever Home that could take both Mazey & Phoenix. After all they've been through, it would be wonderful for Mazey to finally raise one of her babies (out of four litters!) and even better for Phoenix to learn from her strength and determination.
