Sugar

This is Sugar on her last day. It was a happy one, for her. At the end I told her, "just one more shot and all your pain will be gone" She gave me all her trust that I would love her and do the right Thing for her. IBD is a horrible disease, but Sugar never lost her sweet temperment, her curiosity, her spirit. She gave life and me all that she had right to the end even when her body was failing. I cling to the memories of her running round the shed, a tight round circle about a square object; her enthusiastic greetings at the door. Sugar was the standard, surpassing my expectations and then some. She was the Perfect Dog. Our time together was just short of 4 months but she forever changed my life for the better. It is my hope that I gave her a good life to make up for all the bad she suffered before, wiping that slate clean, and writing Love and Acceptance to fill her needy soul in the time she had remaining. She deserved nothing less than my absolute best in return for all she gave me. She will be greatly missed forever in my heart; and Lord willing I will someday see her at the Rainbow Bridge with other pets I have known and loved, pain free and ready to run.

Pepa

Pepa came into our life in January 2002. She was about 9 weeks old and she was the most adorable puppy I had ever seen. The pup had more energy and personality than a Washington politician. She immediately became the center of our world. She quickly learned to sleep in her bed and potty training was a fairly simple task. However, Pepa did her a mind of her own... and did I say a lot of energy. She was a very busy little girl whenever she was left alone. I had never used a crate with any dog; however, many of my friends suggested using one. One day prior to having the crate, we put her in the kitchen and blocked the doorway with a large piece of furniture. We left her food, water, toys, a blanket, and plenty of space to use the bathroom if we did not make it back quick enough. To our surprise when we came home, Pepa was standing in the middle of our dining room table, waging her tail and excited to see us. She had been a very busy young lady. She had chewed my tennis racket, read and shredded all my magazines, covered our floor with toilet paper and simply made herself at home. This was only one of many adventures of her puppy days. As she matured, she became the most loving, obedient, and incredibly smart friend I have ever had. Pepa went with us everywhere. She loved the beach so we would take her for the weekend to Sanibel where she was free to run and play on the beach. Unfortunately on September 12, 2009 her beautiful life came to an end leaving us completely empty and broken hearted. She became the victim of spleen cancer and after a very successful surgery and recovery she was again consumed by tumors which took over her body and left her weak and bleeding internally. With no other avenue, we had to make the most difficult decision we had ever had to make to put my best friend, the best companion loyal friend anyone could wish to have in their life to sleep. Even at the end Pepa looked into my eyes and wagged her tail as she was slipping into a deep sleep. I will never forget her and the happiness she brought to our life. Marlene and Diane

Renzo

On September 12, 2009 we lost our beautiful girl Pepa to spleen cancer. After several weeks of complete devastation, we began to look at the possibility of adopting a puppy. After several friends mentioned Boxer Rescue to me, I started to explore the website looking at the many sad stories of animals that are rescued by this amazing organization. I proceeded to complete an application and on November 6, 2009 a beautiful 8 week old baby boy became available. He had been surrendered at the Animal Control and he appeared to be in good health other than suffering from kennel cough and round worms. Boxer Rescue saved his life and treated him for both ailments. A photo of this beautiful baby boxer was all we needed to fall in love with him and decide we would adopt him. We met Renzo which is what we decided to name him. He was full of energy and very thin. We took him home and he soon started eating and enjoying his life with us. We were in love again and the death and pain we had suffered after Pepa's death was slowly more manageable the more he allowed us to get to know him. He was the most beautiful creature anyone could have in their life. He insisted in sleeping with us and he would place his face on my neck and sleep next to me all night. I was in love!!! We introduced him to our family and everyone felt for the charisma and beauty of this pup. A week into getting Renzo, he started to have diarrhea which we attributed to the treatment for worms, then he started vomiting one day non-stop. We took him to the vet and he received medication for both things. He got better and began to eat and play again. Then one morning we noticed he had runny eyes and nose. However, he remained the playful excited little boy he had always been so we did not worry about it. Shortly after that the reality that we were dealing with something more serious became a blunt and hard reality. Renzo began to have seizures. They were initially short and not too severe. We quickly took him to the vet and we were told they suspected he was suffering with distemper. We were surprised as he had been vaccinated at the State Animal Control. However, his seizures continued to get harder and more frequent. After 48 hours without sleep and with the obvious fate staring at us that he was getting worse we again had to make the decision to put this beautiful puppy to sleep. Even though Renzo was only with us for three short weeks, we were devastated by his passing. The Boxer Rescue volunteer was outstanding during this entire process; she provided support and understanding during our painful journey into Renzo's last days. Our little man was taken too soon!! Such an untimely death, such a loss. There is no doubt he would have made an amazing companion, and friend. We Miss You terribly Renzo. King

July 3, 2009 - King Today we lost our gentle giant. We picked up King almost two years ago with another foster in Jupiter, Buddha. I took one look at him in the parking lot and my jaw nearly dropped to the ground, he was HUGE, 110lbs! We brought them home 7 months after losing our beautiful Apollo. While Buddha found her forever home very quickly, King endured several weeks recovering from neutering and removal of a large mass on his leg which they found was wrapped around an artery and malignant. We finally took King home, nursed his wounds and loved him everyday with all our hearts. He hopped around when mealtime came and loved to lay in the yard and feel the warm sun on his coat. He rolled over and enjoyed a belly rub and snored loud enough to rattle the windows. He was a sweet, kind old soul that just went with the flow. We are the lucky ones for being in the right place at the right time and having the chance to spend the rest of his life with him. We'll love you forever, until we meet again!

This sweet baby endured far more than any animal should have to. He fought valiantly against parvo but his little body just couldn't handle any more. I am so blessed to have been able to spend your last couple hours holding you until you were ready to go. You have truly touched alot of lives in your short time here through your bravery and sprit. Our little Luna. She was such a sweety. We only had her a short while when she grew to enjoy the love and affection and being with us wherever we were! Luna would return the affection with a 'huggie'...she'd wrap her front paws around your neck and give you a hug. She loved to sleep on top of a pile of blankets, or pile of clothes waiting to be laundered! Luna was definitely a little princess. She did not like walking in high grass, and would avoid water in the road by jumping over it or forcing us to walk around a puddle too large to jump. On her good days, she enjoyed greeting the players and playing soccer with the U12 boys soccer team that we coach. We loved our Luna, and miss having her with us..., Bert & Nancy

Roxie, our beautiful Roxie doodle, you were our first rescue dog and you taught us so much about getting involved and saving as many unwanted pets as we can. We first met you at the Deland kennel and you were so thin, heartworm positive and had a cardiac murmur. I wasn't sure I was ready for another boxer, so you convinced Jim with your kisses and wiggles that we should take you home. Once home you were 100% my dog. You loved to lay in the sun and played endlessly with Ruby who joined us a few months after you did. You brought our family so much joy Roxie. This past year you courageously battled a number of ailments and ultimately lost the battle to brain cancer. But Roxie, you never gave up. I can't even begin to express the emptiness we feel in our hearts. We had six and half years with you, but would have given anything to keep you forever. Jonah came to us on a cold, rainy day, full of boxer wiggles and kisses. A shy and timid young boxer boy, but with the help of his boxer brother and sister he soon grew into a proud and happy guy. Kendra came into out lives in 1999 through Boxer rescue. The very second we saw her picture on the website we knew she was ours and we were hers.We had the most fun spoiling her before we had our daughter. The day we brought our daughter home from the hospital, Kendra was there to welcome her.They became BFF's. Kendra went everywhere with us and we continued to spoil her.She made us laugh all the time and never complained or asked for anything except for love, which we were all too happy to give her. Even the morning that she went to rest, she was wanting to play. That was so like her too. In all the years we had her, she never barked, but she loved to rough-house with her "Chuckie". There is a tremendous emptiness in our hearts and home right now. I know what we did was for the best for our dear girl. We would never let her suffer even though we are suffering now. My daughter had called her "waggiebutt" when she started talking and the name just stuck. Crossed to the Rainbow Bridge on June 28th, 2007 Lance was my Groucho Marx. He had the abilities to make me laugh, everyday, numerous times a day, even if I wanted to cry! Through his loving, kind and indomitable spirit I learned that you don't stop - keep going with a smile - it'll be okay. He never stopped, even when he was going through his chronic illness and pain he continued to bring joy, smiles and love. You touched many people in your short time on earth and will be long and much missed. Peace to you Lancy-Po. Run free and be healthy, my good friend and furry child, until we meet again. ELLIE BELLE

Farewell to Ellie Belle, You were the senior girl noboby wanted. You have proven to everyone that you are never too old to adopt a boxer. You spent almost a year in rescue before you found your final forever home with a couple in their senior years themselves. Your new mommy & daddy were close to 90 themselves and all they wanted was a boxer to love & cherish. You were the lifeline for your mommy when she lost her husband within 6 months of giving you a loving home. Always at her side but never jumping up to hurt her. Never rushing past her when she was in the wheelchair or using her walker. Lying beside her bed at night to keep her safe and secure. You battled with your cancer for a long time. Survived the masectomy and never lost your love of life and the people who surrounded you. We knew it was time to say our prayers and wish you a blessed farewell when it became clear that you were struggling to breathe. Even in those last few minutes you were full of love & kisses. We will always love you and have a special corner of our heart reserved for you and the memories you gave us. Herb, Gerry & Ellie

Today I lost my 1st "Little Boy". Even though he was 13, I knew this day would eventually come, I can't seem to believe he's no longer here. He was the most amazing dog, perpetually happy, always empathetic. He knew exactly what I needed, when I needed love and never took no for an answer. Those of you who knew him, know exactly what I mean. His spirit was the purest I've ever known and my heart aches without him. The Rainbow Bridge inspired by a Norse legend By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill, Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still. Where the friends of man and woman do run, When their time on earth is over and done. For here, between this world and the next, Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest. On this golden land, they wait and they play, Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day. No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness, For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness. Their limbs are restored, their health renewed, Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued. They romp through the grass, without even a care, Until one day they start, and sniff at the air. All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back, Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack. For just at that instant, their eyes have met; Together again, both person and pet. So they run to each other, these friends from long past, The time of their parting is over at last. The sadness they felt while they were apart, Has turned into joy once more in each heart. They embrace with a love that will last forever, And then, side-by-side, they cross over. together.

 

SPIKE
Spike, we adopted you when you were about 4 years old. Florida Boxer Rescue brought us together...we went to see another dog that was being fostered at the same house...a younger flashy fawn. Dylan was 3 1/2 and Savannah was 5...the younger boxer was a little wild with the kids. You were there and although you had a hard life until we met...your personality and gentleness with the kids won us over...we took you that day with your bad hips, heartworm problems, skinny frame & all your drool. You were the king of the house...for you meant that we had actually had a house for the first time...no more apartments, a home. Spike, you were there when our first baby went to school.. you walked with us that morning...you were there when we brought Kyla home...you sniffed her, gave her a lick and went back to laying down. This time though you went wherever she was and planted yourself firmly between the baby and anyone who came close. You went on a road trip to NY last year and were so good...you loved the real grass and no humidity of Sept in upstate NY. Every time I stepped out of bed you were at my feet...whenever I came home you were at the other side of the door...now I open the door and only your little buddy Scrappy waits for me...he seems a little lost too.....we all do...your were the man...and I will always love you...I miss you already. We took you to the vet to be cremated and I kissed you good-bye for all of us one last time...be safe and rest easy. Good Dog...Good Dog....such a Good Dog. IN LOVING MEMORY SPIKE HIGGINS 1997-2006
